Biography for Robert Daniel Sehested

Background

Dan was born on August 6, 1956 to Bob and Edel Sehested at St. John's Hospital in Tulsa, OK. Dan was saved in his high school years in Tulsa. The Sehested family was always in church while growing up. But a personal relationship with Jesus Christ was something foreign to Dan. Then, one night about 10 pm, after Dan had gone to bed, the Lord spoke to his heart. That night he confessed Jesus Christ as Savior. The burden of sin was lifted and there was joy in the heart.  He graduated from East Central High School in 1975 and then from Oklahoma State University in December, 1979 with a B.S. in Mechanical Power Technology. He married Lynette Kay Gott on August 18, 1979. After graduation Dan began a career in the oil field with Dowell, later known as Dowell-Schlumberger. He was first stationed in Enid, OK. After six months he was transferred to the Tulsa R&D and Manufacturing facility. After another six months he moved to Worland, WY where he worked in the field gaining experience. Six months later he was transferred to Hobbs, NM where he was the District Engineer. Dan and Lyn lived there for about three and a half years. It was in Hobbs where the Lord began to work in their hearts and they began serving Him in Calvary Baptist Temple, an independent Baptist church. In February of 1985 Dan was transferred to Tulsa, OK again. This time he was assigned to the Kellyville Training Center where he was involved in training newly hired engineers in the business of Dowell-Schlumberger. Immediately after moving they began attending Tulsa Baptist Temple. In a very short time they were very involved and active. During the missions conference in February of 1986 Dan began to feel the call of God in His life. In the missions conference of the following year Dan and Lyn went forward and surrendered their lives to serve God where ever He should lead, but with the clear leading to the mission field. That June Dan quit his job and enrolled in Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC. Dan earned his Master of Divinity degree and Lyn earned her master's degree in Personnel Services. While in Greenville Dan worked at Roadway for 18 months as a loader. He was then hired by Hampton Park Baptist Church as a pastoral intern, primarily running the bus ministry. In October of 1991 Dan and Lyn met with the board of Baptist World Mission. They were approved to open the field of Romania for BWM. After 18 months of raising support, they moved to Slatina, Romania the summer of 1993. Towards the end of their first term God blessed them with the expectation of their first child after 16 years of marriage. Kenneth Daniel Sehested was born March 19, 1996 in Pecs, Hungary. However, for reasons yet unknown, Kenny was born three months premature. He was just under two pounds. The Lord called Kenny back to his Creator on March 21, 1996. He is buried in Pecs. Dan and Lyn praise the Lord for the comfort he has given and for the blessing of knowing where their son is today.

After returning to Romania the Sehesteds were joined by the Nick Lee family. Together they started an independent Baptist church in Slatina. Shortly before the Lees took their first furlough the Sehesteds felt led to move to Lugoj to help with the opening of a college to train Romanians in the ministry. While the Lees visited their supporting churches the Sehesteds traveled back and forth between Slatina and Lugoj. The Lord continued to bless the work in Slatina. Upon the Lees return 6 believers were baptized. In September of 2001 the Sehesteds said goodbye to their home of 8 years to begin a new adventure.

Current Ministry

For five and a half years the Sehesteds labored in Stiuca with Alin and Ica Manciu. At the same time, Dan was teaching in a Bible college in the area with several other missionaries. Though the church in Stiuca is still young and immature, God called the Sehesteds to turn the work over to Alin and to move to the city of Beius. There they are working in the Independent Baptist Church of Beius and both will teach in Berean Baptist College.
